NAP TIME PILATES WORKOUT!

If you know me at all, you know I’d rather do anything than work out. It’s tied with cleaning the house. Actually Jenni and I are both averse to expending more energy than it takes to chase our kids around. We’ve been saying, who has the time to work out?
Fortunately for us, my good friend, Kelly Simmons, is a Pilates instructor and health coach (and I don’t even hate her… I adore her actually). Kelly has come up with a 10-30 minute workout, easily accomplished at your kids’ nap time- like in your bedroom, bra optional! That’s the most I can deal with right now, ya know? The beauty of this workout is that you can do it anywhere at any time! No getting sweaty, no gym equipment, nothing. This whole workout was done in the corner of my bedroom- see, you can do this anywhere! I even do some of these exercises in the play room with my kids!
If you’re in the Nashville area, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the post for all of her contact info and social media! She’s THE BEST. Check out Kelly’s gorgeous site HERE.
KELLY:
These exercises are perfect for an at-home workout, and can be completed quickly—in less than 10 minutes, or could be expanded for a full 30-minute workout.
WALK OUT PLANK
Full body move that’s great as the first and/or last exercise in your workout.

Start in a standing position, arms hanging by your side. Nod chin to chest, round the upper body over the waist, pulling the ribs up to the ceiling. Come back to a tall back by re-stacking the spine. The neck and head are the last to come up. Repeat.

On the last repetition, roll all the way down, place your hands on the floor (bend your knees if needed) and walk out to a plank position. Hold the plank position for a few deep breaths, then go into a downward dog stretch and then back to the plank.
More difficult: add push-ups.
Reps/sets: 2-3 roll downs, 3-5 walk out planks/downward dog stretches.

TOE TAPS
This move targets the abdominals, but your arms and legs will also get involved.

Lie on your back, arms by your side, fingers reaching towards your toes. Bring your right knee to a “table-top” position (knee in line with the hip, shin parallel to the mat). Keep the 90 degree bend behind your knee and lower your toe toward the mat. Lower as far as you can while keeping your ribs pressed into the mat. Switch legs. Then, bring knees together and lower both legs together.

More difficult: Add the arms– with straight arms, reach behind you as lower your toes.

Reps/sets: 5-10 reps on each side, 5-10 reps with both legs.

CAT COW STRETCH
This is a great stretch that prepares your powerhouse for the next move.

Come into an all-fours position (hands under shoulders and knees under hips).

Lift ribcage high to the ceiling, tucking the tailbone under.

Then, reverse– drop ribs down, press tailbone into the air.

Reps/sets: 5-10 sets (1 set = 1 cat and 1 cow)

BIRD DOG
This is a balance challenge and also works back, abs, glutes, hammies.

Stay on all fours, weight balanced evenly across shoulders and hips, with the waistline cinched up. Stay in steady, balanced “table” position, and reach one leg out behind you, hip height. Take a couple deeps breaths. Switch legs. Repeat.

Do arms (one arm out at a time, repeat).

Then, lift one arm and the opposite leg.

See-saw the arm and leg, keeping the powerhouse strong.

More difficult: bring opposite elbow to opposite knee.
Reps/sets: 2-3 reps of lifting each leg and arm, 5-10 see-saws.

SAW
Strengthen your abdominals and back with this rotation exercise that will also make you feel taller.

Sit on your sits bones, arms in a “T”, legs mat-with apart, knees lightly bent and feet flexed.

Sit tall, twist from the ribs, reach over the thigh to “saw” off the pinky toe with the pinky finger.
Come up to vertical in the twist, then unwind through center. Repeat on opposite side.

Reps/sets: 3-5 sets).

SWAN
You may not feel as graceful as a swan as you do it, but this exercise is excellent for improving posture.

Lie on your stomach, legs together, all ten-toe nails on the mat. Make a pillow with your hands—palms down, one hand over the other. Put your forehead on your hands.

Lift your abdominals off the mat. Hover your head and shoulders a few inches off the mat and hold for a breath.

Reps/sets: 3-5 reps.

SHOULDER BRIDGE
Get your glutes, hammies, core and arms with this combo move.

Lie on your back, knees bent hip distance apart, feet flat on mat.

Curl tailbone up, follow by lifting the pelvis, middle back and upper back into a “bridge”— long line from shoulders to knees.

Lower down by rolling through the upper back, middle back, low back until the tailbone touches the mat. Repeat.

On last rep, stay in the shoulder bridge, bring your right knee into your chest then straighten the right leg up to the ceiling.

Flex the heel, lower the leg to the height of the left knee, point the toe, and lift. Repeat 5 times. Bend the knee, lower the foot to the ground. Switch sides.

Reps/sets: 3-5 shoulder bridges, 5 reps of leg lifts on each side.

RELEVE BALANCE
Stand with heels together, toes apart, zipping legs together. Arms out into a wide “T.” Imagine a corset around your ribcage to keep your abdominals working.

Lift onto the toes, look to the right, look to the left, look to center. Lower the heels. Repeat.

More difficult: close your eyes as you turn your head to each side.
Reps/Sets: 2-3 sets.

FEATURED: DEVAN’S WINTER WOODLAND NURSERY

She did it again! Our dear friend Shara (remember her Shark Party HERE?!) is blowing our minds with her son’s dreamy gray and aqua nursery. It is styled. to. perfection. We’ve been stalking gently convincing her to let us show her whole house! One day, Shara, one day…. mwahahahaha!

SHARA:
When I was pregnant with my second, I was so sure I was having a girl that I went ahead and bought crib bedding and started planning out a perfect baby girl nursery. I was just SURE. Halfway through my pregnancy at the big ultrasound, the tech waved her magic wand, paused, and then asked me if I still had the receipt for that bedding… I was having another boy! I was shocked and kind of in denial, so I decided I didn’t need to do up another room for baby boy – he would just share a room with his big brother once he was old enough to move out of the bassinet in my room.
Fast forward to a month before my due date. The urge to nest suddenly kicked in haaaaaaard and I just HAD to have a nursery. Jenni had thrown me the most perfect “snowy sprinkle” baby shower (see it HERE), and I worked from that idea to create a gender-neutral winter woodland nursery. The room was already painted grey (Valspar’s “Cement”), so I left it as is and used that as my starting point. Anyone who has been to my house knows how much I love the color aqua, so I (unsurprisingly) decided on a grey/aqua/white color theme, accented by warmer tones here and there to keep it from being too matchy-matchy or cold. It took more than a year to finish up the room – I had my hands kind of full with two little ones! – but I think that the extra time allowed the room to evolve into something even better than I had originally visualized. Now it’s one of my favorite rooms in the house!
PS. I never did return that girly bedding… it’s packed away carefully in hopes that maybe one day my pretty pink nursery will become a reality 😉

VALENTINE’S DAY SCAVENGER HUNT – FREE PRINTABLE

Here’s a fun activity for your littles on Valentine’s Day morning…
scavenger hunt slash Valentine’s Day decoration!
Ari is REALLY into “finding treasure”, secret clues, and going on a treasure hunt, (it’s really fun when he hides food…yikes) so I’m super excited for him to do this on Valentine’s Day! Make a scavenger hunt around your house with this free printable HERE and HERE. Just print on any paper, cut out, and hide the hearts all around the house!
You could even add toys or candies with the hearts.
When you’re done you can string the hearts up in a banner that reads “I LOVE YOU” for decoration.
Great practice for reading and letter recognition. Gotta sneak it in there somehow!
I actually got the concept of the heart scavenger hunt from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood AKA the best show of all time (PBS kids). This show taught ME incredibly helpful ways to navigate through toddlerhood and taught ARI how to cope with change. Starting school, going to the doctor, help with transitions, potty training… there is literally a song for everything toddlers and parents experience. Plus, they don’t display negative behavior which is so rare in kids shows. I cannot say enough good things about this show!!
Hope your little explorers have fun with this!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

BABY BOY NURSERY + VALENTINE GIVEAWAY (GIVEAWAY CLOSED)

My husband and I literally just dreamt up what we would like to see in our baby boy’s nursery a few days ago. We are in the process of getting our house ready to put on the market possibly, and since we are going through and taking things down, painting everything neutral and not really taking too many risks decor wise, I felt like I had NO freedom to do what I really wanted to do.
It has actually occurred to me that what I love fits right in with our neutral colors and my husband’s ban on wallpaper. I love the idea of a woodland/under the stars kind of feel in the room. I also put my own personal ban on the use of gold….. silver tones have been calling my name.
My husband brought home a print that he picked up when he was traveling ( the Wonder print), so I kind of just started there. I love that he picked something out on his own and brought it home ;).
mobile / zinc monogram – Michael’s craft store / wonder print / moon print / giraffe / lamp / crib
arrows – found on etsy, but no longer available, so on the search for something similar / rug / accent table / dresser / ottoman / industrial bins
GIVEAWAY….
ALSO…… WE WANT TO SPREAD THE LOVE!! Leah and I are giving away goods from our Valentine’s Day party from this post. A party in a box if you will! Then, you can host your own little breakfast/ Valentine decorating soiree for your little and their friends!

SUPER BOWL PARTY

Who’s hosting Super Bowl this year? We picked up the bulk of the decor from Home Depot of all places! This post is not sponsored… I literally walked in and happened to find most of what we needed for the party there! Who knew? We are talking SIMPLE, people. Simple with a big impact!
The table runner is astroturf carpet from Home Depot! They just cut me a strip of 1′ x 12′ for around $6. The dude was like, “well that’s a first for me”! I thought it would be fun to put a signature drink inside a Gatorade cooler like in a real game.
For the table decor, it’s just butcher paper (again, got a huge roll from Home Depot) and drew x’s and o’s with a Sharpie… my husband had to tell me what those meant.
You know when you have a ton of people over, they sit their cups down and don’t know which is which? Instead of writing names, have each guest have their own “jersey number”. I used my silhouette and label paper only so I didn’t have to take a trip to the craft store, but most stores have those sticker numbers you could put on the cups. If you’re rooting for a team, get cups in your team’s colors and use real player jersey numbers!
Pennant banner is just cut out of the same butcher paper roll and handwritten with a Sharpie, taped up with washi tape.
Perfect plates from Target! No need to get football themed everything.
Good luck, hostesses with the mostesses! Gooooo team!

VALENTINES DAY BREAKFAST AND CRAFTING FOR LITTLES: YOU’VE GOT MAIL!

Here is a simple Valentine’s Day breakfast and card making morning for your littles! We picked up most of these goodies from Target and Michaels Craft stores- just goes to show you what you can create with store bought items and just a touch of DIY.
Scroll down to the bottom for a DIY on this simple heart ornament.
We used fiber fill for the clouds and used THIS tutorial for the paper airplanes.
Straws, cups, plates, and napkins from Target.
Wooden scoops by US! Convo us on ETSY to purchase!
Michaels Craft store had the banner blank- we just added letters! We rummaged through our craft drawers and found lots of card-making supplies for the kiddos.
Fill mini shipping tubes from Michaels with crafting supplies!
Download “Special Delivery” labels HERE.
Have your littles decorate mailbags – tutorial HERE.
HEART ORNAMENT TUTORIAL:
First make a heart template: fold a piece of paper in half, cut out half of a heart shape. When you unfold it, it should be a symmetrical heart. Fold colorful paper strips in half, fold your template in half and trace on the folded paper strips. (All of the hearts need to be the same size for this to work).
Use double stick tape to put the hearts together back to back. We used 6 or 7 hearts per ornament.
Stop half way through to tape the string in the middle.
Voila!
We hope you and your littles have a SWEET and fun Valentine’s Day breakie!

CLASS VALENTINES FOR THE BABIES! (FREE PRINTABLE)

More class valentines for you!
Max’s classmates are all around 12-18 months, so no candy, no small toys aka choking hazards.  Though… I think all the moms would appreciate eating the candy FOR their babies- or is that just me? Maxie’s favorite bribe crack snack is Pirates Booty. It’s easy to eat for littles, somewhat healthy, gluten free, and we happened to have a massive box of individual bags in our pantry.
This Valentine is a little cheeky…see what I did there? It might be inappropriate for older kids, but I think it’ll slide with teeny ones! Scroll down for the link.
Simply print the tags on card stock, cut right on the lines (a paper cutter is the easiest), punch a hole in the corner of both the tag and the corner of the Pirate’s Booty bag, and tie with string.

DIY VALENTINE KEEPER

We wanted to create some valentine catchalls for our littles to take to school or simply hang on their door to collect all of the sweet valentines that they get from their friends and family. We wanted to do something a little bit different than the average shoe box that we all know (and love….. or do we?). I may have had too much fun doing this little project…. shhh!
Here is what you will need:
– 2 pieces of felt
– twine
– scissors
– craft glue
-heat bond tape
-iron/ ironing board
– 1 needle
– straw (if you are doing one for a boy)
– anything you choose to decorate your bag with! I chose ribbon and felt stickers
Simply lay out your two pieces of felt, cut strips of the heat bonding tape for 3 of the sides as shown and iron over each strip holding for about 6-8 seconds per section. ALLOW TIME FOR IT TO COOL!! Then, pull the paper part off of the tape. If it has not cooled, this part will not work!
Lay your second piece of felt directly on top of the piece with the tape.
Iron. Again, be sure and leave the iron on each second long enough for it to actually bond. Patience!
Allow for cooling time to ensure a good hold. Then, you should have a pocket that looks like this.
Next, string your twine through the needle, and poke the needle through both pieces of felt. It will be hard to get it through the heat bonding tape, so be sure to poke your hole just outside of the edge of the tape.  tie a double knot to secure the twine.
Do this on both sides.
Play with your design before securing everything to the felt. Lay it all out just how you want it.
Then, get to gluing. I only needed to glue the ribbon I used. I used Martha Stewarts craft glue, which worked fabulously.
The stickers were felt, and I got them at Target! They adhered to the felt bag extremely well.

If you are doing one for a boy, you can slide a straw onto the twine before you thread each side to create a carrying handle…. kind of like a briefcase. 😉
This is such a fast and super simple project that you can actually do with your kids!! We made a couple more of these bags, and I did the ironing and threading. Then, I just let Amara peel and stick (hence the upside down hearts on hers) as she pleased. Now, go fill this thing up with some V-day goodies!

MATCHBOX CARS VALENTINES (FREE PRINTABLE)

Okay… Valentine’s day is more than a month away, but we can’t be the only ones seeing pink and red eeeeverything in stores, right? We’re feeling the pressure to get. on. the. ball. So let’s start off with a fun option for your kiddo’s class Valentines. One of your favorite posts from last year was our Valentines day card free printables. You can still download all of these- scroll down below for the links!
As much as our family is ALL about snacks and treats, I wanted to do another non-candy card. I never know if the other moms are like organic no sugar people (Ew. Jk. Not really.) and plus kids love toys, so why not? This year Ari is giving his little buddies Matchbox Cars which he collects himself! Get it? We’re the perfect MATCH!
2. print on card stock- THIS is our fav for super bright ink
3. cut right on the lines using our fav cutting board HERE
4. tape the cars with washi tape HERE.
5. Purchase Matchbox Cars set HERE. The cars are about $1 a piece, so not so bad if you have a small class.

Pregnancy Update

Hey everyone! Sorry that you are not getting a blog post from us until Wednesday. Things are a little crazy busy ( in a good way) for L&L. Be sure and follow us on IG for quicker updates!! I have been wanting to share a pregnancy update with you for a couple of weeks now. We just had our monthly check up on Monday, and I am happy to say that everything is looking good! My doctor mentioned that she will be watching as she noticed I have a low lying placenta. She said I have no reason to be concerned about Placenta Previa ( which is truly my biggest fear in pregnancy), but it hasn’t stopped me from googling and reading every good (and bad) story that each person has posted online. Ugh!! Whyyyyyy do I even do that?
I guess most of all it just makes me even MORE aware of how much of a miracle it truly is to get healthy babies into this world. I don’t take for granted one second of what God is doing to grow this baby boy of ours and bring him into the world safely. He has been moving non-stop…. mostly at night just as I settle into bed :). I am grateful for those kicks. Anyway, I am choosing to not worry or be anxious. I am choosing God’s peace, and will continue to pray to Him for my health and for a good report at our next ultrasound.
Weeks: 23 (almost to the 6 month mark. Whaaa?)
Gender: boy!!! Our reveal here incase you missed it.
Sleep: Very restless at night, but day naps are my jam right now. Invested in this pillow, and I couldn’t be more pleased! I highly recommend it!
Cravings: French fries, lots of fruit (oranges in particular…. like alll day), salads and lots of water. Much better cravings than I had during my first trimester (junk).
Big sister thoughts: Amara is asking almost daily when we will meet her little brother. It is the sweetest thing, and he is starting to move where you can see the kicks outside of my belly. We try everyday to feel kicks or “see him”. We have officially moved the crib and glider out of Amara’s room and made it into an official “big girl room”. She has adjusted so incredibly well.
Maternity wear: I have been rocking my normal clothes, with the exception of some borrowed maternity jeans from Leah, but planning on investing in maternity tops and some more denim this week. It is time!! Pea in the Pod is having a great sale, and these items are in my shopping bag: jeans , button up , sweater , nursing bras.
Things that bring me comfort and make me feel pretty
Insoles – I bought these to put in my booties for a Justin Timberlake concert we went to a few weeks ago. We stood danced the entire time, so I had to be prepared. They have been in every pair of shoes I have worn since. They help soooooo much with my tired legs.
I have also been using these serums the last few weeks. They feel SO amazing, and have really helped hydrate my dry pregnancy skin. I also invested in this Personal Microdermabrasion wand during the Black Friday sale I saw on Mintarrow.com. Totally noticed a difference in just two uses! I am in love!
This shampoo/conditioner is one that I keep going back to. This line is fairly new, and definitely competes with salon products. There is nothing that smells better to me or hydrates my hair more than good ole Suave, ya’ll. It makes me feel like I just left the salon.
Stretch marks: none yet. Using this belly butter, which worked wonders during my first pregnancy. Plus, the smell is not harsh at all in my opinion. Planning on adding this and this to my regime as well.
Indulgences: I have been getting pedicures and gel manicures, and will continue to do so until this baby arrives. It just makes me feel good and put together… even on my worst days.
Nursery: ummm, what? This baby needs a nursery?
Thanks for reading! Hope this helps any of you other soon-to-be mamas. I would love to know what some of your must haves are right now!!
